# Matthew 24: As in the Days of Noah — Are We There Yet?

**December 13, 2024**

*”As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.”* — Matthew 24:37

Jesus’ Olivet Discourse is the definitive prophetic teaching on the end times. And at its heart is a single comparison: **the days of Noah.**

If we want to understand our times—and recognize the approaching return of Christ—we must understand what characterized Noah’s days. And we must ask: **Do we see these characteristics today?**

## The Context: Matthew 24

Jesus delivered this teaching on the Mount of Olives, overlooking Jerusalem. His disciples had asked about the signs of His coming and the end of the age.

Jesus responded with:
– Warnings about deception and false messiahs
– Predictions of wars, famines, earthquakes
– Persecution of believers
– The abomination of desolation
– The great tribulation
– The cosmic signs preceding His return

And then, the comparison to Noah.

## What Characterized the Days of Noah?

### 1. Widespread Genetic Corruption

Genesis 6 describes the “sons of God” taking human wives and producing the Nephilim. The result: “All flesh had corrupted their way” (Genesis 6:12).

**Noah alone was “perfect in his generations”—genetically uncorrupted.**

**Today:** Gene editing, CRISPR, human enhancement, transgenic organisms. We are actively corrupting the human genome—this time deliberately rather than through angelic intervention.

### 2. Forbidden Knowledge

The Book of Enoch describes the Watchers teaching humanity technologies beyond God’s timing: metallurgy, warfare, cosmetics, astronomy.

**Today:** Artificial intelligence, consciousness manipulation, synthetic biology. Knowledge we were not meant to have, deployed without moral restraint.

### 3. Violence Filling the Earth

Genesis 6:11: “Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence.”

**Today:** Record violence in cities, global conflicts, family breakdown, abortion on demand. The value of human life has never been lower.

### 4. Normalcy Blindness

Jesus emphasizes: “People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. They knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away.”

Life went on as normal. Weddings were celebrated. Business continued. **The catastrophe was invisible until it arrived.**

**Today:** Despite warnings about AI existential risk, despite genetic corruption, despite surveillance systems being built—we continue as normal. Distracted. Blind.

### 5. Sudden Judgment

The flood came suddenly. Despite 120 years of warning (Genesis 6:3), people were surprised.

**Today:** We have warnings—biblical, technological, prophetic. Will we be surprised when judgment comes?

## The Specific Signs Jesus Gave

Before the Noah comparison, Jesus listed specific signs:

### Deception (vs. 4-5)
– “Watch out that no one deceives you.”
– “Many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.'”

**Today:** False messiahs, false gospels, AI “entities” claiming divine status, “Christian transhumanism.”

### Wars and Rumors of Wars (v. 6)
– “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars.”

**Today:** Multiple global conflicts, nuclear threats, cyber warfare.

### Natural Disasters (v. 7-8)
– “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.”

**Today:** Record natural disasters, food insecurity, climate disruption.

### Persecution (v. 9-10)
– “You will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.”

**Today:** Rising anti-Christian sentiment, “domestic terrorist” labeling of religious groups, cancel culture.

### Betrayal (v. 10)
– “At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other.”

**Today:** Church division, apostasy, betrayal of biblical values for cultural acceptance.

### False Prophets (v. 11)
– “Many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.”

**Today:** Tech prophets (Kurzweil, Musk), political prophets, spiritual gurus—all pointing away from Christ.

### Lawlessness (v. 12)
– “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.”

**Today:** Record low trust, social fragmentation, isolation.

### The Gospel Preached (v. 14)
– “This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

**Today:** Unprecedented access to the gospel through technology—yet also unprecedented deception.
