# Predictive Programming: How Media Prepares Us for the Future

**December 30, 2024**

*”We are as gods, and might as well get good at it.”* — Stewart Brand, Whole Earth Catalog

Why do futuristic films from decades ago depict technologies that now exist? Why do “conspiracy theories” from yesterday become today’s headlines? Why do we accept as normal what would have shocked our grandparents?

**The answer: predictive programming.**

## What Is Predictive Programming?

Predictive programming is the theory that media (films, TV, books, news) intentionally introduces concepts to the public consciousness before their implementation, making them easier to accept when they arrive.

### How It Works

1. **Introduction** — New concept appears in entertainment
2. **Normalization** — Repeated exposure makes it familiar
3. **Acceptance** — When implemented, it seems inevitable
4. **Implementation** — Public offers little resistance

The public has been **psychologically prepared** to accept what is planned.

## Historical Examples

### The Smartphone

Star Trek’s “communicator” (1966) prepared the public for mobile phones. By the time smartphones arrived, the concept was decades old in popular imagination.

### Surveillance

1984 (1949), Brave New World (1932), and countless films normalized constant surveillance. When CCTV and digital monitoring arrived, it seemed like “just like in the movies.”

### Biometric ID

Films for decades showed fingerprint scanning, retinal scanning, facial recognition. Now we unlock phones with faces and accept airport biometric screening without question.

### Pandemic Response

Event 201 (October 2019), a pandemic simulation, preceded COVID-19 by months. The response playbook—lockdowns, masks, vaccine mandates—was already in the public imagination.

## Transhumanist Programming

Modern media is saturated with transhumanist concepts:

### Brain-Computer Interfaces
– The Matrix (1999)
– Avatar (2009)
– Upload (TV series, 2020)
– Altered Carbon (TV series, 2018)

**Message:** Brain interfaces are cool, empowering, inevitable.

### Human Enhancement
– Captain America (super soldier serum)
– Limitless (intelligence pill)
– Gattaca (genetic selection)
– Elysium (medical pods)

**Message:** Enhancement is heroic, necessary, desirable.

### AI Consciousness
– Her (2013)
– Ex Machina (2014)
– Westworld (TV series, 2016)
– Blade Runner (1982, 2017)

**Message:** AI is conscious, worthy of rights, potentially dangerous but mostly sympathetic.

### Mind Uploading
– Transcendence (2014)
– The Avatar (not the blue people one)
– Black Mirror episodes (multiple)

**Message:** Uploading preserves the person, offers immortality, is romantic.

### Human-Robot Merger
– Ghost in the Shell (multiple versions)
– Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
– Terminator series (sympathetic robots)

**Message:** Cyborgs are cool, human-machine merger is the next step.

## The News as Programming

“News” also programs acceptance:

### Softening Disclosure
– Gradual UFO/UAP revelations prepare for “alien contact”
– Climate crisis reporting prepares for emergency powers
– Pandemic coverage prepared for lockdown acceptance

### Normalizing Surveillance
– “For your safety” justifications
– “If you have nothing to hide” rhetoric
– Convenience over privacy framing

### Promoting Enhancement
– “Miracle” medical breakthroughs
– Gene editing portrayed as disease cure (not enhancement)
– AI helpers portrayed as harmless assistants

## Why It Works

### Narrative Transportation

When we watch films, we enter the narrative. Our critical thinking relaxes. We accept the story’s premises emotionally.

By the time we encounter the reality, we’ve already “experienced” it fictionally. It feels familiar. Safe.

### The Halo Effect

If we love a film, we unconsciously accept its worldview. The Matrix is cool → brain interfaces are cool. Captain America is heroic → enhancement is heroic.

### Repetition

Seeing the same concepts across multiple films reinforces them. Brain interfaces in dozens of films must be inevitable, right?

## The Christian Response

### 1. Recognize the Programming

Watch media with critical awareness:
– What worldview does this promote?
– What technologies does it normalize?
– What future does it prepare me to accept?

### 2. Reject the Premises

Just because it’s in a movie doesn’t make it:
– Inevitable
– Good
– God’s will

**We determine our future by God’s Word, not Hollywood’s imagination.**

### 3. Teach Discernment

Help children and young people:
– Recognize propaganda
– Question narratives
– Compare media messages to Scripture
– Think critically about “the future”

### 4. Create Counter-Programming

Christians must create:
– Films affirming biblical anthropology
– Stories warning against transhumanism
– Art celebrating embodied existence
– Media offering true hope

### 5. Reject Fatalism

Predictive programming promotes inevitability: “This is the future. Accept it.”

**We reject this.** The future is not determined by films. The future is shaped by:
– God’s sovereignty
– Human choices
– Spiritual warfare
– The return of Christ

## The Ultimate Programming

Satan has been programming humanity since Eden:
– *”Did God really say?”* — Question authority
– *”You will not surely die.”* — Death is not the end
– *”You will be like God.”* — Human transcendence

**Same program. New interface.**

Transhumanism is the old lie in new packaging. And Hollywood is the delivery system.

## Breaking the Programming

### Scripture Renewal

*”Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”* — Romans 12:2

Fill your mind with God’s Word, not Hollywood’s programming.

### Community Reality

Spend time in physical community, not virtual reality. Real relationships break the spell.

### Prayer and Worship

Encountering the living God shatters illusions. Worship aligns us with truth.

### Active Resistance

Refuse the technologies being programmed. Live differently. Be the alternative.

## Conclusion

You have been programmed your entire life to accept transhumanism:
– Brain interfaces
– Genetic enhancement
– AI consciousness
– Human-AI merger
– Mind uploading

**Recognize the programming. Reject it. Replace it with biblical truth.**

The future is not The Matrix. The future is Christ returning in glory.

The future is not uploading. The future is resurrection.

The future is not merging with AI. The future is communion with God.

**Don’t buy what they’re selling. Not even the premise.**
